Home > News > IDS - Fractional Fund

I am going to take it another bold step forward .... Mutual funds allow people to invest in a cross-section of companies. Now I am preparing to offer the opposite. I call it a Fractional-Fund.

What if you could invest as easily as you consume? The Internet offers us an opportunity to dramatically transform the way that capital is raised. If many of the pre-internet road-blocks to capital formation are reduced, then the diversity and flexibility for both investors and those seeking capital would dramatically increase.

A "Fractional Fund" is like a "mini mutual fund" in which an investor can invest in products within companies. Companies would issue stock in the whole company in addition to individual product shares.

The result is:

  • The consumer directly impacts product introduction.
  • Management need not guess about product support.
  • The consumer becomes the investor in what they consume.

A new dimension to investment is created without damage to the existing corporate layer. The corporation gets access to more flexible capital and the public gets access to more flexible investment. The focus shifts from those who manage the product to the success of the PRODUCT itself.

If ALL people could individually invest even in small amounts in various products worldwide via the internet, customers would help determine product development. Companies could launch products based on predetermined demand rather than speculation. If you see an item that you think will be popular, you could invest in its success.

For example, you want to invest in a computer company but think that the new large screened laptop segment will grow much faster than the desktop computer segment. Wouldn't you want to invest ONLY in the laptop segment's success rather than in the whole company?

Imagine you find a car you really like, but can't afford it yet. You can buy it on time, or invest in its popularity until your investment in it grows, then convert that investment into its purchase.

I would like a person to be able invest time, equipment or funds in any single or combination of IDS projects. I want to be able to use such an investment model for every project that we release.

It will allow people to contribute or invest in:

  • the company in general
  • a type of project
  • an individual project
  • a specific application or embodiment of a project
